Working through ‘opposite scores,’ ‘Torn’ centres acts of ‘attempting to arrive at the opposite (but failing)’ and ‘sitting at a perpetual climax but never climaxing.’ These opposite scores test the relational capacities of the individual body and the group – when is rejection possible? When is it confusion? What does curious integration look or sound like? What would embrace of an opposite even be? In working through this set of questions, the acts performed generate circumstances of binary exorcism, foregrounding (and sometimes backgrounding) the threshold mirages through which personal bias, hierarchies of perception, and critiques of categorisation are unveiled.
Torn channels curiosity over fear and enfolding over avoidance. It attempts to find solace in the places of discomfort. It is a methodological proposition for healing.
To find comfort in discomfort is to find freedom.
